From December to March, Uzès lives to the rhythm of the black truffle. The market on the place aux Herbes welcomes the truffle growers, estates open their truffle orchards to visitors, and in January the town devotes a whole weekend to the "black diamond". Here is the calendar for the 2026-2027 season, based on the organisers' information, and our tips for staying in the centre, a stone's throw from the market.

The truffle market on the place aux Herbes

The tourist office announces the truffle season from 14 December 2026 to 31 March 2027, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 7:30 am to 1 pm, on the place aux Herbes. Entry is free. Truffle growers from the Gard set up at the "Cabane à Truffe" (the truffle hut): they sell their harvest and give advice on how to choose and store it.

On Saturdays, the truffles join the big weekly market in the centre. Come early: the best lots are gone during the morning.

Watch a truffle hunt at Les Truffières d'Uzès

Just outside town, on the route d'Alès, Les Truffières d'Uzès welcome visitors all year round, by reservation, on a 15-hectare estate. From November to February, the season of the black winter truffle, every tour ends with a truffle-hunting demonstration ("cavage") with one of the estate's dogs.

The estate also offers a half-day of truffle hunting on weekdays, from 9 am to noon, limited to six people, including sorting and brushing the harvest followed by a tasting (€50 per person as of 29 October 2026), as well as a visit to the arboretum (€15 per person). The shop sells fresh truffles. Prices and availability should be confirmed directly with the estate.

The Fête de la truffe, 15 to 17 January 2027

The truffle weekend, organised by the Comité de promotion agricole d'Uzès (the Uzès agricultural promotion committee), has been running since 1994. The 2027 edition takes place at L'Ombrière from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 January, with a winegrowers' evening on Friday 15 and a gala dinner on Saturday 16. Prices vary depending on the event, all by reservation; the detailed programme will be published by the organisers.

For this weekend, book your accommodation as soon as your dates are set. The rest of L'Ombrière's programme is in our guide L'Ombrière in Uzès.

Where to stay for the truffle season

The market opens at 7:30 am: staying in the centre means you can walk there before the crowds.

  • As a group or family: Maison Belon, three minutes from the place aux Herbes, can be rented in its entirety for up to ten people or apartment by apartment. Ideal for a truffle weekend with friends.
  • For four: Le Familial chic, three minutes from the square, with its balcony over the rooftops and a kitchen to cook your truffles in the evening.
  • For two: Le Saint Julien, two minutes from the place aux Herbes.

In December, the Uzès Christmas market (12 to 14 December) comes shortly before the opening of the truffle season.
