On the wine route: Duché d'Uzès, Tavel and Lirac
AOP Duché d'Uzès, Tavel, Lirac: a tasting itinerary through the vineyards of the Gard, less than thirty minutes from Uzès.
By Boost Loc Pro

The Gard is a land of vines as much as of stone. Around Uzès and the Rhône, three appellations are worth the trip on their own, and a tasting. Here is our wine itinerary, to be enjoyed in moderation from one of our properties.
AOP Duché d'Uzès
The youngest appellation in the region produces fresh whites (Viognier, Grenache Blanc) and garrigue reds that are both supple and spicy. Many estates, a few minutes from Uzès, open their cellar for a visit and a tasting. Ideal on the way back from the market, to enjoy on the terrace of Lou de Laly.
Tavel, the great rosé
About twenty minutes away, Tavel is one of the only vineyards in France to produce nothing but rosé: a food rosé, powerful and deep, far from an ordinary summer wine. Perfect with a charcuterie board or grilled fish.
Lirac, the neighbouring gem
Less well known than its neighbour Tavel, Lirac produces reds, whites and rosés with excellent value for money, in a landscape of rounded pebbles typical of the southern Rhône.
How to make the most of it
- Visit the estates on weekdays, by appointment: the welcome is often more personal.
- Choose a designated driver, or pick an estate ten minutes from your accommodation.
- Bring a few bottles home: most estates ship, or let you put together a souvenir case.

Frequently asked questions
Do you need to book to visit an estate?
Most cellars welcome visitors without an appointment during the day; for a guided visit, call the day before.
Is Tavel really a rosé to drink with a meal?
Yes. More structured and deeper than an aperitif rosé, it goes well with grilled meats, spicy food and fish.
How do you get back after a tasting?
Choose a designated driver, or pick an estate close to your accommodation: several Duché cellars are ten minutes from Uzès.
