The Pont du Gard is about twenty minutes from Uzès by car, but not everyone comes by car. Students, travellers arriving by train, families who want to leave the car at home: here are the three real options, with their times and their pitfalls.

By bus

The regional liO network serves the Pont du Gard from the Uzès bus station, seven minutes' walk from the Maison Belon. Frequencies vary by season and day; services are increased in July and August. Two tips:

  • check the timetable for the day itself on the liO website, as lines change between high and low season;
  • plan your return before you set off: the last bus often leaves in the late afternoon.

The journey takes about thirty minutes. The stop drops you near the entrance to the site.

By bike

From Uzès, allow one hour to one hour and a quarter to reach the bridge on minor roads via Vers-Pont-du-Gard, with a few climbs through the garrigue. There are bike and e-bike hire shops in Uzès; an e-bike flattens the hills and turns the ride into an outing. On site, bike racks let you lock up near the entrances.

On foot from Vers

If you are staying at L'Oustal Di Fabre, in the village of Vers, the bridge can be reached on foot in forty minutes along a waymarked path that crosses the old Roman quarries. It is the most beautiful approach: the bridge appears all at once, round a bend in the path, with no car park or ticket office.

Combining options

The most comfortable option for a day out: the bus there in the morning, a swim and a visit, the bus back in mid-afternoon, then an aperitif on the place aux Herbes. From a property in central Uzès such as Le Saint Julien or Le Nid, everything can be done on foot.

What to bring

Water, a hat, closed shoes for the paths, and swimwear and a towel in summer. The site has restaurants, but a picnic on the banks of the Gardon is still the best table.
